Reverend Floria Washington
Floria Washington is chosen by God and claims her identity as a follower of Jesus Christ, “My mission in this life is to know Christ and make Him known.” She is the wife of Dr. Howard T. Washington, Pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Columbus, OH; the daughter of the late Rev. George A. Thomas and Thelma M. Thomas, the mother of Malcolm and Kamilah Morgan, mother-in-love to Pastor Micah Morgan and Rev. Ian Morgan and grandmother of Josiah, Levi and Aria Grace Morgan.
Rev. Washington is a licensed and ordained minister of the gospel and serves as an Associate Minister, Servant Leader for the Women’s Ministry and a Teacher for the adult women’s Sunday school class at the Second Baptist Church of Columbus. She serves as the Dean of Congress of Christian Education for the Eastern Union Missionary Baptist Association (EUMBA). She is a seasoned preacher, teacher and facilitator.
Rev. Washington is the Program Manager of Learning/Development and Culture with the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.
She served in the Ohio Treasurer of State’s Office as Chief of Staff and Chief Operations Officer. Prior to joining the Treasurer’s office in 2009, she held various positions of progressive responsibility in private industry including Director of Change Management at Whirlpool Corporation.
Her education and development include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and politics from Converse University, Spartanburg, S.C., a Master of Public Affairs degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and a Master of Divinity degree from Ashland Theological Seminary, magna cum laude. She is a graduate of the American Baptist of Ohio Leadership Academy and has a Certification in Expository Preaching from E.K. Bailey Preaching Conference, Dallas, TX.
She is a member of the Regional Board of American Baptist Churches of Ohio, the Human Resources Association of Central Ohio, and the Society for Human Resources Management. She is an active life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and has served as chaplain for Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
