Purpose
Our Purpose
We at Second Baptist Church believe the purpose of our church is summarized in a single sentence based on two key scriptures: “We believe a great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will grow a Great Church.”
The Great Commandment: “Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart … soul … and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” Matthew 22:36-40
The Great Commission: “Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’” Matthew 28:19-20
According to Matthew 28:18-20, the purpose of the church is: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”
Second Baptist Church Exists To:
(1) Celebrate God’s presence (worship) – Matthew 4:10, John 4:23-24
(2) Demonstrate God’s love (ministry) – John 13:55
(3) Communicate God’s Word (evangelism) – Matthew 28:19-20
(4) Make disciples of God’s family (fellowship) – Matthew 28:19-20
(5) Educate God’s people (discipleship) – Ephesians 4:11-13, 2 Peter 3:18
We Therefore…
SUBMIT to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in faith;
RECOGNIZE that the mission of the Body of Christ is essentially one of evangelism and discipleship which in turn gives birth to the ministries of Christian Education, Mission, and Evangelism;
COMMIT to a Christian lifestyle of sacrifice and service as reflected in Jesus Christ; thus;
YIELD to Him our stewardship of time, talent, and tithe that the Kingdom of God might be blessed.
Need Prayer?
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 NLT
